Sri Lanka tourism revenues doubles in May 2023

Sri Lanka’s estimated tourism revenues grew more than 200 percent to 131.5 million US dollars in May 2023 from a year earlier, despite arrivals slowed in an off-peak month, official data show. The tourism revenue numbers are based on a survey conducted by the tourism promotion office and released by the central bank.

Estimated tourism revenues for May was 131.5 million US dollars, up from 43.5 million US dollars in the same month a year earlier. The revenues for the first five month $827.8 million US dollars, 30.4 percent up from 634.6 million US dollars in the same period in 2022.

May arrivals also nearly doubled to 83,309, compared to the last year’s 30,207, while  524,486 foreign visitors came to the island nation in the first five months of this year compared to 378,521, the official data showed.
