The Knuckles Mountain Range, also known as the Knuckles Massif (“Dumbara Mitiyawatha,” which means “The Misty Valley”), is a part of Sri Lanka’s Hill Country that rises above 3000 feet or 915 meters above sea level and covers an area of about 90 square miles or 234 square kilometers. Ecotourism has enabled us to meet the challenge of accommodating millions of tourists while maintaining pleasure without jeopardizing the viability of the destinations. Knuckles are in the forefront of this endeavor. It is an ideal destination of eco-tourism with a wealth of activities. From nature trails, hiking, bird watching, photography to wildlife safaris and camping, the journey offers great views, less traveled by mainstream tourists.
In addition to the wanderlust, the two waterfalls, “Sera Ella” and “Bambara Kiri Ella”, are never failed to relish you with the cold misty spray of water. Thelgamu Oya also offers a great site for a dip in crystal clear but chilly water. Traveling further upstream on this very scenic stream no doubt will make you feel refreshed and rejuvenated.
