The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Brazil in collaboration with Pátio Brasil Shopping chain in Brazil held a Sri Lankan Trade and Tourism promotional event for the first time at the Pátio Brasil Shopping Mall in Brasilia on 19 February.
Pátio Brasil Shopping is one of the largest shopping malls in Brazil. The Sri Lankan stall displayed a wide range of Sri Lankan products, such as different flavours of Ceylon Tea, cinnamon and spices, coconut products, handicrafts, table mats and essential oils, etc.
Over 800 Brazilians visited the colourfully decorated stall and had the opportunity to taste different flavours of Ceylon Teas and Sri Lankan finger foods. Simultaneously, the visitors were given exposure on the diversity of the tourism sector in Sri Lanka. Leaflets providing information in Portuguese language on Sri Lankan tourism were distributed amongst the participants, in addition to playing videos on Sri Lankan tourism.
The Senior Executive Officer and the top management of Pátio Brasil Shopping Mall in Brasilia, representatives of trade chambers, tour operators, trade officers of diplomatic missions in Brasilia and journalists joined the Ambassador of Sri Lanka at the inauguration of the event.
In his inaugural address, the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Brazil Sumith Dassanayake highlighted the potential of the trade and tourism sector in Sri Lanka for Brazilian entrepreneurs. Ambassador Sumith Dassanayake also requested the Brazilian public to choose Sri Lanka as their next travel destination since the island nation offers unique tourism experiences. Augusto Brandão of Pátio Brasil Shopping said it was an honor and privilege for his company to co-host the event and assured that Sri Lankan products would be promoted in the super market chain in Brasilia.
Requests by the Brazilian business community to find Sri Lankan partnerships will be arranged by the Commercial Section of the Embassy in due course.
